ENGAGEMENT PICTURES: DIY TOUCHES

I was on WedMeGood on the weekend and saw this gorgeous engagement featured that was full of diy features: Totally fell in love with the hanging glass bottles and the watering cans as vases.

DIY WEDDING DESSERTS TABLE; CUPCAKE TABLE
Home made cupcakes which was styled by Nigar and Nuzhah

This reminded me of my engagement and the amount of diys that went into it (we love love love diy creations, they are so personal and unique) so I thought I'd share some of the pictures. Hope you guys find some inspiration in them too :)

The engagement happened in a little quaint hall, and there was going to be lots of people so the actual room wasn't going to look amazing and we knew that and therefore focused on creating a little desserts corner in a side room:

The little room of cupcakes

The cupcakes were colour coordinated according tho their flavour. We scribbled it on a small blackboard for guests to know the differences.

Everyone loves some cupcakes; the children kept adding the extra sweets to them, Don't know how they handle it!

The engagement cake. I had wanted something really rustic and liked the look of this one online, so I whipped it up for myself

Absolutely adore birdcages; had a few placed here and there

Can you spot the "cherry blossom" branches scattered about? handmade by me, Nigar and Nuzhah

DIY WEDDING DESSERTS TABLE; CUPCAKE TABLE
Our coconut cupcakes are ridiculously popular among "brown" people; whereas me, Nigar and Nuzhah love almond cupcakes!

Our hand made cherry blossom branches; in glass vases from Ikea (80 pence for a vase!) with some real flowers; yellow carnations

The vases from far; the mix of real and faux flowers were really nice

I truly loved this tables; I feel sad that it wasn't me who styled them! (I was busy piping the cream on the cupcakes)

diy cherry blosssom tree, tissue blossoms
We had actually made a cherry blossom tree but can't seem to find a proper picture for it. This will have to do

diy wedding favour cakes
Chocolate cake slices for the guests to take away; we sealed them in plastic wrappers then placed inside these envelopes from Ebay. Added a card and tied a pretty bow. Perfect
These cards are really easy to make and adds a personal touch.

And to end with; these 2 gorgeous little ones enjoying the cakes (well, they ain't so little anymore)

I wish I had  a picture of our invitation cards to show you guys, they were handmade by Nigar and they were so rustic and gorgeous.

The main tip for a diy event is lots of able hands! This (or all our wedding diys) wouldn't be possible for me if I didn't have Nigar and Nuzhah to help. Often I come up with an idea, Nigar will bring it to life (she's the enabler) and Nuzhah is the "logistics" person.

In fact DIY's don't necessarily have to be expensive: you just have to be a smart shopper and be creative. The blackboard were £1 each from the poundshop, as were many of the candle holders. The tissue paper for the cherry blossoms were from the market, the branches were from a tree in our garden. The cards were all designed and made by us. The favour bags were were Ebay, and the ribbons were also from the market. The vases were from around the house, and the little ones were 80 pence each from Ikea (if you are in India/Pakistan/Mauritius, where you get fizzy drinks in glass bottles, you could totally use those as then they are practically free. If I remember correctly some of my vases were "fanta" bottles).

Are you lot DIY-ers ? What's your favourite DIY project?

If not, why not? is it because you don't think you are creative enough? don't think you are talented enough? or you just don't like the look of diys?

  8. Everything is pretty, I loved the idea of the vases - mixing real with fake flowers. The cup cakes and the stands...oh so pretty! I totally agree that DIY doesn't have to be an expensive one...just fun and cute looking.

I DIY-ed name cards for our reception for about 65-70 people and children had fun looking at them. I couldn't have any spare hands, so hubby and I sat up almost till about 2 PM for the reception next afternoon :)
