True story: Back in August I was going to a wedding and had bought a dress. 3 days before the event I couldn't fit in the dress (It did fit me fine a week before. I literally looked like I was a sponge and had swelled up with water (retaining extra water is linked to your menstrual cycle) and the dress wouldn't zip up! I searched the internet high and low and tried a whole bunch of de-bloating stuff. A day later I was fine and the dress fit like a glove. I felt even better because all that extra fluid I was carrying around had left.
Tips to try:
1. Drink lemon and ginger "tea": Infuse some grated ginger in boiling water. Strain the ginger out and squeeze a lemon in (make sure the water is no longer boiling as that will denature the enzymes in the lemon). Sweeten with stevia or xylitol (I use this). Have a few of these during the day
2. Drink green tea or even better Matcha tea! If you don't like those then choose herbal infusions
3. Ditch the fizzy drinks
4. Mix a tablespoon of raw Apple Cider Vinegar with water or your favourite juice. Have one in the morning and one before bed.
4. Work out; you'll sweat out some crap and you'll feel better
5. Drink water; this seems counterproductive but when you're retaining a lot of water, drinking more water will actually help to flush out the excess
6. Do a detox wrap (mix coconut oil with caster oil, epsom salts-or sea salt if you don't have epsom, and add some essential oils- I really like lemon), rub on all your areas that are bloated, wrap in cling film (saran wrap) and wrap an old bed sheet around you. Lie down in a warm room/next to a radiator/under the sun or use a hot water bottle on your really bloated areas
7. Take a detox bath
8. Avoid any processed/artificial/hard to digest food (e.g. sweeteners, wheat), skip the salt (causes more water retention), and opt for fresh food like a salad or a smoothie or a juice
9. Eat more fruit; in general fruits that are citrus have diuretic properties and can really help to beat the bloat; so opt for oranges, mandarins, and grapefruit. Also cucumber, watermelon and pineapple are great too. (extra tip: fruits are always best eaten on empty stomach)

I know this probably sounds extreme but it genuinely works. What do you have to lose apart from your excess water?
Happy de-bloating :)
